Why is she referred to as "LGBT"?

[edit]

Why is this generic label of LGBT being used to describe Sally as if those who are gay or id as "transgender" are lumped together? If she had a woman partner that would make her a lesbian or gay, not necessarily bisexual, definitely not "transgender". I find lots of examples of gay people who don't believe transgender ideology is valid, "transgender" people who are still only attracted to the opposite of their birth gender. As in the sources, both "LGBT" and "lesbian" are used in the article. VQuakr (talk) 16:57, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you point me to the part of the article where "lesbian" is used? I searched using simple text search and could not find "lesbian" other tan titles of cited sources.
I too, similarly to Docsavage20 think using lesbian or homosexual or bisexual is more appropriate and precise to describe Ride's sexual preferences rather than LGBT, being an umbrella term used to describe a category of people who are not heterosexual. 70.31.233.101 (talk) 15:39, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Slightly misleading phrasing of Sidney Drell's resignation

[edit]

I think the reference to Sidney Drell "resigning from CISAC in protest" over Sally Ride not being offered a position is a bit confusing. It implies that the resignation was a result of her not being hired specifically, but the resignation seems to be a more general issue of not being allowed to give professorships to people in interdisciplinary research groups at Stanford at the time. See this news article from the time: https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1988/11/29/arms-control-expert-quits-in-a-dispute-at-stanford/ba021819-9927-484d-9b95-9a6425d186e6/

I don't have access to the original citation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sally_Ride#cite_note-Sherr2014-2), so I'm not sure if that source has a more direct link between Sally Ride and Drell's resignation. 65.175.45.93 (talk) 12:27, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
